International News: There has been a sharp increase in Russian military activity near the Finnish border recently. Satellite images show that Russia is organizing its forces in the area, and this is the same pattern that was seen before the attack on Ukraine. The Russian army has started new construction work at several important military bases in northwestern Russia. Many of these bases are from the Soviet era, which are now being reactivated. This indicates that Russia is working on a strategy to strengthen this region after Finland and Sweden joined NATO.

Activities increased at four important bases

According to a report by Sweden's channel SVT, four Russian military bases—Kamenka, Petrozavodsk, Severomorsk-2 and Olenya—have seen heavy activity in recent months. These images have been obtained through satellite company Planet Labs.

Kamenka: just 35 miles from the border

More than 130 military tents have been set up since February in Kamenka, just 35 miles from the Finnish border. This is enough for an entire brigade, or about 2,000 soldiers. This previously quiet area is now bustling with soldiers.

New warehouses in Petrozavodsk

Construction is also progressing rapidly in Petrozavodsk, where three large warehouses have been built, presumably to house armored vehicles. This location is just 100 miles from the Finnish border. The Severomorsk-2 air base in the north, which was previously inactive, is now operational again. Helicopters and other military equipment can be seen here. It is located close to both Norway and Finland.

Attacks on Ukraine from Olenya airbase

Olenya airbase, which is about 90 miles from the Finnish border, has been accused of bombing Ukraine. Kiev claims that Russian attack aircraft have been deployed from here. Finland's Deputy Defense Chief Lieutenant General Vesa Virtanen says that Russia is deliberately testing NATO's unity. He also said that earlier Russia tried to exert pressure through methods like cyber attacks and immigration, but now it is openly taking military action.

More troops will be deployed in the future

Virtanen said that Russia is planning to increase the number of its troops in this region. According to him, this entire military structure is now being changed to four to five divisions. He also said that Finland is fully alert and ready to deal with any situation.
